Paradise Valley AZ Area Guide

 

Nestled between the stunning Camelback Mountains and Mummy Mountains lies the affluent and upscale township of Paradise Valley Arizona. Home to just under 15,000 citizens, Paradise Valley’s population is relatively small compared to many of its neighboring cities. The intimate nature of Paradise Valley and its small community does not make it any less attractive in the eyes of guests and vacationers from all across the country. Housing twelve different and remarkable resorts, this Maricopa County town is one of the states most popular destinations. With stunning views of the Camelback Mountains and Mummy Mountains and being so close to Phoenix and Scottsdale, the quaint desert island of Paradise Valley has all the makings of a great new hometown.


Paradise Valley History

Paradise Valley HistoryIn the late 1800’s a cattle company turn agricultural developer, the Rio Verde Canal Company, decided to explore these Arizona lands in search of new farmland. Surveyors from the Rio Verde Canal Company were sent to this region and were so taken by the beauty and tranquility of the unparalleled desert backdrop of this Arizona region, those first discoverers dubbed the area Paradise Valley. Settlement began around this time, though it was not until the post World War II era did development really take off in the area. Neighboring cities Phoenix and Scottsdale wished to expand their boundaries in the late 50’s, residents of Paradise Valley who feared zoning issues and shopping centers banned together and petitioned for the incorporation of their town of Paradise Valley. Their efforts paid off and the Town of Paradise Valley became an official Arizona township in 1961. In that 40 year history, Paradise Valley has become one of the regions most sought after destination – attracting people from all over the nation with its small town lifestyle and modern conveniences.

Cosanti GalleryCosanti Gallery
Paoli Soleri built the Cosanti gallery before the town’s incorporation, adding buildings and other various structures as he needed them. Today, the Cosanti Gallery displays windbells and original Soleri sculptures, graphics and sketches, Soleri windbells are famous throughout the world.

El Chorro Lodge
Originally the home of the Bell Family, the El Chorro Lodge is a thriving restaurant and lounge. During the early to mid-1930’s, the Lodge was home to Judson School for Girls

The Mummy Mountain Preserve Trust
Established in 1997, the Mummy Mountain Preserve Trust goals are to perpetuate the natural landscape, desert plants, wildlife and scenic beauty of the hillside areas of the Town. Mummy Mountain got its name because from a distance, the mountain looks like a laying Mummy.

Paradise Valley Country ClubParadise Valley Country Club
In 1952, a group of businessmen came together under the idea that a golf course would benefit the area immensely. The idea became a hit and a donation of 270 acres helped the club get off its feet. By the end of the first year, the Paradise Valley Country Club had 184 members.  

Sanctuary On Camelback Mountain
Originally owned by Hollywood stars John Ireland and Joan Drew, the Paradise Valley Tennis Club opened in the 1950’s with five tennis courts, a swimming pool and a clubhouse. Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, as it is now called, is an intimate resort and spa.
